“The Fifth Man”
The Fifth Man is a series of live action stop-motion films which run for approximately 60 seconds each and can either be looped or edited together to create a coherent piece of indefinite length. Each film is comprised of five characters who appear to be the same person, but only four are clearly identifiable because one of them keeps his back turned towards the viewer.
By using 5 characters based on the same person, the films will explore the concepts of happiness, loneliness and assumption. The viewer assumes that the fifth man has the same face as the others, but the truth may never be revealed and the question is always left hanging. However, it is the fifth man who does surprising things that often surprise his fellow players. These action hint that he might not be the same as the others.
The general tone in the films is melancholic, innocent and almost hyper-real or magical. Our goal, with the series, is to entertain and engage, not impress with stunning visual effects or uproarious gags. Each film will have an extra little touch to make one's day a slightly better day.
